After two long years, Tyler, The Creator returns to the music scene with a deluxe version of an old album: Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale. In 2021, the artist transported his audience to Geneva, Switzerland with the help of DJ Drama and features from other artists including Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrel Williams. Call Me If You Get Lost introduced listeners to yet another side of Tyler, The Creator, straying from his more harsh rap roots and leaning into a more laid back and jazzy sound. By building a new persona, Tyler Baudelaire, for this album, the artist was able to turn himself into a character and take us through his story. Tyler also used a great amount of imagery to set the scene of this album, which was clear in each song, and it made this era of Tyler’s music one to remember.
Flash forward two years and we now have the deluxe album of this known and loved album. Eight additional songs now appear as a part of the album, and they keep up with the same plot line, characters, and imagery; it’s like we never left Geneva. DJ Drama reintroduces Tyler on the first new track: “EVERYTHING MUST GO”. The spoken transition contains lines that thank fans for their support since the last album’s release and the journey that was taken following its release.

On a similar note, DJ Drama’s final remarks on “SORRY NOT SORRY”, the final track on the deluxe album, breaks the story’s fourth wall by hinting at new music coming soon. Drama promises a new era in the near future before the track goes silent, which leaves listeners craving more.

DJ Drama’s commentary is seen as mostly humorous, but he is also used throughout the album to help tell some of the story and hint at what is coming in the future. Drama breaks the fourth wall throughout the album and acts as a narrator, constantly interacting with audiences, and his frequent features really help pull the whole album together.
Tyler’s additional tracks fit onto the original album seamlessly, continuing with the same themes and imagery that add to the story. We continue to hear about a trip to Geneva, lazy days, and luxuries that come with Tyler Baudelaire’s adventures. “WHARF TALK” featuring A$AP Rocky tells the story of how the rappers would spoil their partners and take them on their adventures, and “HEAVEN TO ME” talks about lazy days that turn into luxurious nights with loved ones. The themes of luxury and love are prevalent in the album, but it’s done in a humble way that makes listeners nostalgic for something they never had.
Audiences were confused before the deluxe album came out, since it completely throws off Tyler’s usual release schedule. Tyler, the Creator has always released albums every two years starting in 2009 with his mixtape Bastard. Fans were concerned that we would not be getting a full new album this year, since the deluxe album was released on a scheduled release year. However, after watching the “SORRY NOT SORRY” video and hearing DJ Drama’s final remarks on the album, it sounds like a new album is coming very soon. The music video shows each era of Tyler and the characters that he created in each era, ranging from Tyler Baudelaire to Igor to Wolf Haley. There is another version of Tyler that does not relate to any of his past albums, so we can only assume that this symbolizes the new era of Tyler, the Creator. Another interesting theory that points at a new album is the Fast and Furious theory. Fans noticed that Tyler always releases an album within 100 days of the release of a new Fast and Furious movie, and the 10th movie in the series is coming out in May. If this theory stands true, a new album should be released by the end of August, 2023.
The flow of this album is unmatched, and each song melts into the next as if all 24 tracks were actually just one long song. DJ Drama’s commentary also helps each song carry into the next by narrating the story, so each song continues the story of a luxurious stay in Geneva, Switzerland. Overall, Tyler, the Creator’s storytelling skills make this deluxe album unique, and the eight new tracks pick up right where we left off two years ago. This story may be over for now, but fans across the world know that a new unique story will be coming soon.
